Very few racers don't have to worry about the budget. IRP emphasizes the importance of developing an excellent chassis through proper, consistent set-up. The tools to do this start with the basic; pyrometer, camber-caster gauge and bump-steer gauge. We also handle scales, set-up pads and more. When deciding where to spend scarce racing dollars, our recommendation is in chassis set-up. There is little sense in having the most powerful engine in the worst handling car, but there is a wealth of wisdom in getting the maximum out of your chassis, and then paying for the additional horsepower as the budget allows.
Start off with a good pair of chassis stands to support your car. The IRP stands fold flat for easy storage and transportation. The standard height of 9" is sufficient clearance to allow you to change tires easily, bleed brakes, change pads and do most typical track-side maintenance. Part #55-03-03, $139.
IRPs chassis stands fold flat for easy storage and transportation, and work with most standard quickjacks.
IRPs quickjack can lift all corners of a Formula Continental with one pull. Here Courtney, IRPs vice president of joy and mirth lifts Larry (the janitor), who weighs nearly as much as a formula-car corner!
IRP Quickjack. Especially designed for formula cars, the IRP quickjack slides under the cockpit of the car and allows one person to raise a car quickly and easily. Here Courtney, IRPs vice president of mirth and joy, hoists Larry (IRPs janitor), who weighs as much as a formula car front end. The quickjack has very small front wheels and a larger main wheel. This allows the jack to be slid under the car at a slight angle for best clearance. The larger main wheel makes the jack easy to maneuver in the shop or at the track. Part #55-03-05, $199.
IRP engine stands are designed to handle both the 1600 and 2000 engine. Use the stands to safely store or transport engines without risking damage to expensive oil pumps or sump pans. The stands have an elongated bar that is used as a handle so two people can lift the engine. Leave the engine on the stands and it allows you to align it with the gearbox for mating. Part #55-03-01, $99.
Intercomp digital pyromter. This pyrometer uses a probe to insert beneath the surface of the tire, so you get more accurate readings. The digital gauge is extremely accurate. A high-temp probe is avalable for use measuring rotors, headers or other components. Digital pyrometer and case, part #55-00-77, $158.
Intercomp Camber-Caster Gauge
Camber-caster gauge. The gauge on the left is the standard bubble-type gauge, while the right-hand gauge is a digital unit. Both measure camber-caster. The left unit shows the magnetic mount, which can also be used on the right unit. Either can be used with a 3/4" UNF threaded fitting that screws into the typical center lock mounted wheel. Bubble unit price, $199. Digital unit is $329.
Bump-steer gauge unit has levels on both the base and the mounting plate, and uses dual indicators for extra accuracy. Part #55-00-76, $309.
Intercomp is the leading manufacturer of industrial weighing equipment. Their product line includes commercial scales for jet aircraft, the trucking industry and race cars. Scales are guaranteed accurate within 1/10th of 1%--this means one pound for the typical formula car! The plates are made from cast aluminum and the connectors are mil-spec style cannon plugs. The SW-11 system (shown) displays individual corner weights, cross weights or per centage of weight. System operates off 120, 220 or batteries (Nicad batteries and charger included). SW-II system, Part #55-00-71, $1,295. SW-I system, Part #55-00-72, $1,495. NOTE: We recommend the SW-I system with the two-row display, which displays all corner weights simultaneously.
Set-up platform: Now that you've got all the measuring equipment and scales, you need a truly first class set-up platform, and IRP has it! This platform uses cast al-mag which is then CNC-milled for the scale pockets. Crossover bridges are 6061-T6, while the ramps are steel. Each pocket has four feet to make leveling easy and steady. The entire platform is powder coated. We have checked out many sources, and believe this to be the best available. The truly remarkable thing is that they are priced below the average at $1,495.
